In June 2020, Augustus was travelling for work and found himself in the small town of Wapakoneta, Ohio (Katie’s hometown). He was working on installing equipment at Pratt Industries. He was there for about a week and regularly visited a restaurant called J. Marie’s. Katie worked at this restaurant during this time as a server. Augustus happened to come in one night when she was working and Katie asked the host to have him sit in her section, since she thought he was very handsome. At the end of the night after she had brought him his bill, she asked her friend Amanda “Do you think I should give this guy my phone number?” which she responded saying “of course!”

So Katie wrote her phone number on Augustus’ bill and ran back inside the restaurant. She figured Augustus would politely decline and she didn’t want to face him. Augustus came into the restaurant shortly after that and introduced himself and gave Katie his number and asked her out on a date.

The next morning, they went on their first date to Coffe Amour and the date went so well that they never stopped talking to and seeing each other. Augustus and Katie continued to date long distance for next 4 years and eventually moved in together September 2024.
